Church

Went to church with my wife today. I think it was a true revellation for her which made us both quite emotional. It was a wonderful service and I hope there will be more younger people joining the congregation as time goes on.

The mystery of the black bags

Went down to the field today and saw a couple of black bags lying next to the fence. Thought they looked suspicious - stolen maybe, but in the end they turned out to belong to a friend of our son, who lives in Limpley Stoke in one of the big new houses near the church. I had never seen a paddle-board bag before so I thought they were suitcases or musical instrument cases or something. They had deliberately hidden them in the bushes so nobody would find them, but they hadn't considered that it might look suspicious to somebody who can remember the days when we had to report suspicious-looking bags to the police in case of IRA bombs. Anyway, it was a great relief when I met my son and his friend on their way back to our house, as I'm always a bit anxious when they go on the river swimming or paddle-boarding. Our son would like to get his owm board, but today he found out how heavy they are so maybe he will have been put off. Anyway we've got nowhere to keep it. My wife's ...

Back to school

Our son will be going back to school on Wednesday and I'm very worried about it as we're still in the middle of the pandemic with very high case numbers every day and no end in sight. Somebody said that they've probably been bombarded with messages asking them to reconsider their strategy and I hope that's case. Actually, I don't think schools should be restarting at all as it's far too risky for the children, their parents and the teachers, given the nature of what we're dealing with here and its origins. I guess the only thing to do at this juncture is to ask for assistance from above!
