Went down to the field today and saw a couple of black bags lying next to the fence. Thought they looked suspicious - stolen maybe, but in the end they turned out to belong to a friend of our son, who lives in Limpley Stoke in one of the big new houses near the church. I had never seen a paddle-board bag before so I thought they were suitcases or musical instrument cases or something. They had deliberately hidden them in the bushes so nobody would find them, but they hadn't considered that it might look suspicious to somebody who can remember the days when we had to report suspicious-looking bags to the police in case of IRA bombs. Anyway, it was a great relief when I met my son and his friend on their way back to our house, as I'm always a bit anxious when they go on the river swimming or paddle-boarding.
